Kitties!!!!

Renfield and Rochester the day we brought them home

These guys were meant to be mine.
When we sadly found ourselves dogless in September of 2005  I knew I wanted a kittie to put some life in my life, but I put it off for some time. One day I just woke up knowing "today is the day" and off to the shelter I went. The shelter I adopted from had a "take a number" system- you got your number then went through to view adoptable pets. I had gone specifically looking for a male orange marmalade kittie as I had always heard that they were the best, so when I saw TWO orange kittie boys- brothers to boot- I about flipped out. But then I had to return to the lobby and sit and wait until my number was called, all the while just KNOWING that someone before me would get one of the brothers and break them up- it is a very busy place and I'll bet ten people were in front of me. When they called my number I ran to the desk, handed them the slip with the cage number on it and babbled "There are two of them and I want them BOTH!"
They were very young, just over seven weeks, and had only been put out for public viewing that morning- what are the chances that would be the day I decided to go looking! Two very special boys and ALL MINE!!
Phew!!!
Too close for comfort, that was.

A very short while after getting the boys I realized that they were alarmingly close, and feared what might happen many years in the future when we lost one. So I went back to get a third kittie roughly the same age and found Loomis.

Loomis the day we brought him home

Loomis was very ill for the first couple of months and spent a long time in the veterinary hospital. Had it not been for Wayne and Marty Huizenga's generous support of The Humane Society of Broward County (now the Marty Huizenga Animal Shelter in Fort Lauderdale, FL) that covered all of his expenses, Loomis would not be here as the bills were in the thousands and no one, certainly not me, could have afforded that for a tiny, sick shelter kittie. I can never thank them enough for all they do for animals- the Huizengas rock, y'all.
He finally came home a bag of bones, started packing on the pounds and is now a plus sized 15 lbs.
Here he is pictured at a scant 4½
