Cearbhaill Gardens (part 2) before and after
This looks like an abandoned property, right? Someone actually left a home in this condition! |
We don't think this is bad at all!
Weeds, weeds, weeds and no lawn to speak of
We had several stumps ground out
A dog worthy lawn
And now
Facing our woods, but still a big pile of weeds
Peninsula from the far side
I think this is a great improvement
More of this bed- we collect rocks at every opportunity
Note the position of the telephone pole- previous owner had installed her fence no where NEAR the property line. We think it is because she was too lazy to dig up that shrub there.
Will be a bed eventually- telephone pole for reference!
We found a crooked dogwood once the dead hickory came down
We had the fence moved, took some trees and shrubs out and gained nearly 15 feet of yard
And currently from the front with Iceberg's blooming
Still trying to get that dogwood upright, but at least it has leaves now- birdbath or feeder for reference
Weeds and a wasted area |
Billy built a fine retaining wall to keep the carport from sliding down the hill and added a wood seasoning area |
Facing the rear of our house- all weeds and tree stumps |
A little grass seed and a year of care- note retaining wall left of woodpile |
North fence before fence relocation and tree removal |
North fence now- yes, the plants are small but it's a five year plan, y'all! |
Looking down south fence after we mowed and had the stumps ground out- note corner of carport
Limelights certainly grew
Corner of carport now after retaining wall- Billy built this in 98ºF heat. He's the man
Limelights straight on |
Looking down north side before the fence was moved- note dogwood is on the outside of the fence.
Now
After fence was moved the dogwood is mine!
View from my kitchen window |
Facing our odd little carport before- mud and weeds
And now- sometimes we park there but mostly not- it's too nice a utility area |
Facing the carport before- you can see how the garage is tucked in back there. But how in blazes could you ever get a car in there? |
The carport is now our patio- where we sit, and sit, and sit- planning more yard projects or just watching Owen |
This is looking out our walkout basement door before |
And how it appears now- it's a great place to sit and watch the rain- that's Owen's outside bed in between the chairs |
The back corner before the fence was relocated- tree at left |
Is now tree at right in pet cemetery |
Please scoot down picture!!
Photo on left was taken from the far end of our property- if you squint you can kinda sorta see our house through the trees. We are thrilled to own this little piece of woodlands as it makes for a very relaxing view from our sitting area. and no one can ever build behind us!! |
Cearbhaill Pet Cemetery...
The pet cemetery is in the far right, way back. Once the landscaping is mature you won't be able to see from the main yard- there will be a secret entrance.
We brought Lola, Casey, Steve, and Newman from Florida with us See their website Cearbhaill Irish Wolfhounds
Entrance to pet cemetery- we brought that giant flat rock with us from Florida where such things are expensive. Here they are roadside but there we paid $100 for the thing- and it survived the move intact!
Once those Japanese Maples back there mature it will be awesome- they're in the picket fences! |
Each of their name tags is cemented on the main stone |
The text on the large stone reads: "You who pass by on this path,
if perchance you notice this tomb, I beg you not to laugh that it is the
grave of a dog. I was wept for, and the dust was mounded up by the hands of
my master, who also inscribed this message on my gravestone."
Someday I hope to get these faded stones re-etched so you can read them- the sentiment is lovely and so deserves to be legible |
You have no doubt noticed 200 cheesey fences around plants in some of the after photos- this is to prevent their being damaged by the new Baby Bigfoot - yep, we got ourselves a new Irish Wolfhound puppy!

aka
Professor DimWitty Owen the Jabrowen Goobey McGooberson - take your pick, he's a character!
